2010 Fiesta Activities
The organizers of Fiesta del Porsche 2010 have a number of new activities plannef for you. Because we truly do live in the Land of Enchantment, we encourage all of our visitors to take a little time before, during, and after Fiesta to do a little exploring of our rich heritage, viewing the beautiful vistas of New Mexico’s unique land and skies, experiencing some of the rich diversity of cultures, and – last but not least – sampling our great variety of Southwestern cuisines.
Of course Albuquerque itself has a rich heritage and is becoming cosmopolitan itself to offer a variety of great experiences; we have several close neighbors worth visiting too. Many of the Rio Grande Pueblo villages nearby have visitors centers that offer tours and cultural interpretation. There are some great drives through the Manzano, Sandia, and Jemez Mountains. There are number of great museums in Albuquerque and Santa Fe is only about an hour's drive away. The Albuquerque/Santa Fe area also is home to a number of great wineries. For more activities in and around the Albuquerque area, please go to the Home page and click on one of the buttons near the bottom of the left side.
But if you want to stick close to the Fiesta del Porsche schedule, you’ll find that we have plenty for you to do. Here’s a brief description of what we’ll be up to.- Thursday will offer a High Performance Driving Education day at Sandia Motorsport Park. Come down the night before so you can get an early start at this challenging and fun track just a few miles west of Albuquerque.
- Thursday Evening Welcome Cocktail Party, just after you’ve registered at our host lodgings -- the Sheraton Uptown Hotel– we’ll be having cocktail party from 5:30 to 7:00pm with hors d'ouerves and cash bar. Afterward, you're free to explore the city's culinary delights on your own. Here's a list of suggestions.
- Concours/Wash-and-Shine. After our great experience at the Tanoan Country Club golf course during PCA Escape 2008, we'll be back on the links once again in this beautiful setting to show our cars and enjoy a great brats and burgers barbeque at 5:00pm. See our menu on the Friday Dinner Page.
- Autocross. Saturday brings a chance to get some times and do some bragging. This year’s autocross is designed to be fun and challenging. Set at Sandia Motorsport Park, just west of Albuquerque, you'll enjoy this rigorous cone-fille course. Lunch will be catered. And during the lunch break, our youngest Porsche Kids will compete in a fun, kid-powered autocross. For more on the autocross visit the autocross page.
- Daily Driving Tours. We'll have two driving tours each day in addition to the regular Fiesta activities. All tours will start at the Sheraton Uptown Hotel. Be careful how you chose your activities. Even though New Mexico is the Land of Enchantment, it's hard to be in two places at once! For descriptions of the driving tours go to the tours page.
- Saturday night dinner at Sandiago's at the base of the Tram. A great New Mexican-style dinner at the base of the world famous Sandia Tramway. It'll be a great way to end a long day and take in some breath-taking scenery.
- Gimmick Rally. This rally is part of the Ashley Carroll competition. We've set it up so that you'll have more fun than you ever thought possible for a rally, plus you won't miss out on viewing beautiful scenery. Check out the rally page.
- Farewell Awards Banquet. Our last event of Fiesta 2010 will be a great one. With good food, good friends, and prizes, prizes, prizes. Pick up your trophy, swap lies, collect the swag, and listen to legendary PCA past-President Prescott Kelly tell the story of early Porsche history. This’ll be a great end to a great weekend. See our menu options.
