What is Fiesta del Porsche?

Fiesta del Porsche 2010: Viva la Fiesta is the 33rd edition of a classic multi-day, multi-venue Porsche-only event put on by the 2008 Porsche Club of America “Region of the Year” Roadrunner Region (all of New Mexico and Southwestern Colorado).

Begun back in the Seventies as a way for the Colorado, New Mexico and Arizona regions to get together for some socializing and competitive fun, it was hosted for many years in Santa Fe. Over the years it built its reputation as one of the finest Porsche-only events in the country, even rivaling the PCA’s National Porsche Parade event.
The weekend has both social and competitive activities. On the social side, participants will be able to relax after their long drive and enjoy this year’s Thursday night welcoming party featuring live entertainment in the Baldwin Room at our Headquarter hotel, the Sheraton Uptown.

Friday night features a burger and brat cookout following our show and shine concours at Tanoan Country Club. Saturday features a sunset dinner at Sandiago’s restaurant at the base of the Sandia Tram and Sunday the Farewell Awards Banquet will be at at the Sheraton Uptown. On the competitive side, participants will vie for the Ashley Carroll award given to the participant who combines his or her best scores in the Show and Shine Concours, the Autocross, and the Rally.

Since moving the event to Albuquerque in 2005, organizers have found a fantastic array of new venues to entertain our local enthusiasts as well as our out of town guests. Several driveouts are planned including a drive to Sandia Crest and on to Santa Fe for some shopping or a unique experience, an authentic Indian feast at Jemez Pueblo.

This year’s event will top 2007 for fun, excitement and inclusivity, providing entertaining venues for the whole family. Our host hotel is the Sheraton Uptown, located a few blocks from Albuquerque’s newest shopping and dining experience, ABQ Uptown. Friday, at the Show and Shine Concours or after that day’s drive out, we’ll gather at the Tanoan Country Club for a Brat and Burger barbeque. All Porches are encouraged to park on the driving range to add some color to the spectacular green of the Tanoan Country Club grounds.

Saturday, in addition to a choice of drive outs, we’ll be at the South West Motor Sports race track for the autocross which will include a fun event for the kids. Saturday night we’ll be enjoying a sunset dinner at Sandiagos restaurant at the base of the Sandia Tram, the worlds longest unsupported cable tram ride. Finally, Sunday we’ll be touring either through the Jemez Mountains which will include an authentic Indian Feast at the Jemez Pueblo or up the Turquoise Trail to the Sandia Crest, on to Santa Fe and then meeting again at the Sheraton Uptown for the final Awards and Farewell Banquet.

Throughout the weekend interested participants can participate in the gimmick Rally which will be similar to the rally held at PCA’s Parade in Colorado in 2009.

Who comes to Fiesta del Porsche?

For over 30 years Fiesta del Porsche has attracted Porsche owners from all over the western United States. The 2007 event drew 120 participants with about half it’s participants from New Mexico, about a third from Colorado, Arizona, and Texas, and the remainder coming from as far away as California and Ohio. This year’s organizers are targeting a larger population base that includes all regions of the Porsche Club of America west of the Mississippi.

The majority of participants drive their Porsches to the event with a small minority trailering  their race or concours cars. Porsche models covered the spectrum from early 356’s to SUV Cayennes and the latest Carrera GT3’s.  Fiesta del Porsche drew couples, individuals, and families to participate in the events and even a couple of pet lovers who brought their dogs along for the ride (one couple from Colorado drove to the event in a 356 convertible with their giant husky).

Fiesta del Porsche attendees represent a variety of backgrounds and age groups.  Three-quarters of Fiesta del Porsche attendees are between the ages of 41 and 70 while 20% of Fiesta attendees are between the ages of 31 and 40. Eighty-six percent of Fiesta del Porsche attendees have a College or higher degree with the top two occupations being Professional or Executive. In addition, almost three-quarters of Fiesta attendees had annual incomes ranging from $40k to $80k+.

Most do some sort of car maintenance themselves and about a quarter of the owners do most of their work themselves. More than half of the attendees have been participating in Fiesta for 10 years or more. In addition, previous year’s top draw was location, location, location. New Mexico’s wide expanse and the schedule of events offered during Fiesta were the top two draws for past year’s attendees.

Events that received high marks included: the concours, drive-out, autocross, awards banquet and rally.  Participants also gave thumbs up to the host hotel, Old Town restaurants and shops, and the Saturday night Tram Dinner.  The 2007 Fiesta del Porsche event received the highest marks in recent memory with some calling it the best Fiesta ever. One couple went so far as to say that it was better than the national Porsche Parade.

Half of the 2007 Fiesta attendees received information on Fiesta del Porsche via the Roadrunner Ramblings newsletter.  This year the organizing committee has gone a step further in order to better disseminate information about Fiesta to a much broader audience. FiestadelPorsche.com will enable participants from across the country to register, get all the latest news and to learn more about your product.

How Can You Be Involved?

Every participant at Fiesta del Porsche receives a goody-bag filled with a variety of regional appropriate and automotive items from our sponsors. In addition, at our Sunday night Farewell Awards Banquet we give out a range of door prizes ranging from the small and interesting to the great and grand.

Every sponsors name is displayed prominently at each of the venues, mentioned throughout the weekend at the giveaways, listed in the giveaways, posted on FiestadelPorsche.com, listed in the Roadrunner Region’s newsletter the Roadrunner Ramblings, and will be listed on the back of the event t-shirt. In 2010 we are offering several levels of cash and in-kind sponsorship. This is a great opportunity for you and your business to get maximum exposure during a dynamic event with a discerning clientele.
